ASUS has received a trip back to the real world when they announced that in the first six months of 2008m they only shipped 1.7 million Eee PCs. Auch! That is almost 300,000 less than their brave estimations.
Of course, the excuses were ready right away. Either there was a downturn in the global economy or many users decided to upgrade their old PCs directly with the Atom-based Eee PC 901.
"In related news, Acer updated that the XP-version Aspire one will have its storage size increased from 80GB to 120GB and will be powered by a six-cell battery. Suggested retail price is NT$16,800 (US$552.60). Acer has already forged partnerships with some Europe-based telecom service providers for bundled promotions with 3G services. It is also testing the built-in 3G connectivity with Taiwan Mobile (TWM) in Taiwan" Digitimes reported.
Considering the fact that the Taiwanese manufacturer is trying hard to squeeze everything from the Eee brand, we must keep an open mind and be ready for everything because you never know what would happen next on the netbook-class mini-laptops market.
