Hitachi Maxell partnered with Nagasaki University, NIAIST, and Fuji Heavy Industries to create a new type of lithium-ion battery that should be able to store 20 times more power than the batteries we use nowadays, which should be cheap and easily mass produced. It's not a common Li-ion battery recipe because it doesn't include cobalt anymore, but nano-infused lithium with manganese.
The concept looks good but there's a big road to actually using such a battery for my digital camera or other electronics. I'm not really buying the news, at least not until I see it produced.
