Canon Rebel XS (EOS 1000D) - lightest DSLR camera ever

Canon has announced that is going to launch its new digital SLR, dubbed Rebel XS or code name EOS 1000D by July 2008. What is supposed to be an entry level and the lightest DSLR camera ever (17.7 ounce weight), the new Rebel XS is still in pre-production stage.

It features a 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, Live View mode, DIGI III image processor and auto ISO to keep things interesting, Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS lens with a 4-stop image stabilization ensuring super performance even in low light conditions. Other specs include:

  • resolution: 230,000 pixels
  • a 7-point AF (auto focus)
  • LP-E5 battery
  • unlimited JPEG buffer but a lesser amount of RAW pictures
  • 32GB of flash storage capacity
  • Secure Digital and Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) support

Canon EOS 1000D is the EOS 450D camera's twin brother with only small details being different. This is where the 2.5-inch LCD display gives away which one is which.

Overall the camera is great for newbies. We're waiting know the price and the availability date, becaue I'm definitely interested in buying one.
