A practical fuel cell system that is small enough (50 x 30 mm) to fit in your palm has been built by Sony. It uses a combination of lithium-polymer battery, backup battery, and control circuit, and could be the next-level when it comes to mobile devices.

The new fuel cell system uses methanol as fuel and the supply is controlled with a hybrid pump that regulates the amount of power used based on the system's needs. Sony claims that with 10 ml of methanol a mobile device can play a 1 seg movie for 14 hours. That's autonomy, baby !!!
The only drawback could be that we may need to refill (methanol refilling stations???) the new cells, unless Sony comes up with an idea.
