Samsung 256GB SSD Announced - Crazy Fast

samsung-256gb-flash-ssd.jpg
Samsung’s first 256GB SSD has just been publicly announced. For those that don’t know the MLC-flash SATA II drive has speeds of 200MBps and 160MBps sequential write. Awesome!

I can’t wait till September comes around for this 256GB SSD to go on sale because it's going to have a nice price tag attached to it.Righ now it’s just a matter of deciding whether I want this ASAP or whether it’s worth holding off until the 1.8-inch version comes out sometime in the fourth quarter, this year.

I think this is a great thing for Samsung and believe if it’s anything like the rest of their products we’re in for a treat.

awesome,i would like one of this

Where can i buy one? It is dashing gadget and 256 GB... wow! I am so hooked on by it's looks.

The gadget is nice but being launched with a high price tag won't do any good as the technology is already up with blue ray discs and much cheaper usb hard disks. Wonder this utility will be an enhancement or just a showoff.

This will be at least $6000, if not more. This has nothing to do with blu ray, its about speed of hard drives. This will blow any other hard drive or optical drive in existence out of the water.

It isn't going to be $6k you retard. They said less than 1000 dollars.

One MAJOR issue is that years ago, some SSDs did not allow very many writes in the boot block - I saw one SSD fail after 4 writes ($800 per drive, back then). Yeah, I'd like one of these as well, but SSDs have to accept millions of write cycles just like the magnetic based hard disk these SSDs are hoping to replace. We want reliability.

@ Andy

If you do a little looking around. You can find these solid state drives for sale. Even a 64gb is more than a thousand dollars. Don't be so fast to call someone a retard, retard.

Sure, it's not going to be six grand. But, it will definitely cost more than a thousand.

@Anonymous
Youre a retard, the big thing about this besides the capacity is that samsung is making this affordable for most consumers...again youre a retard
