The new Atom 300 dual-core chip from Intel has had some interesting specs leaked lately. The 1.6GHz Atom 330 processor should provide twice the performance, ultimately supporting as many as four distinct program threads by adding hyperthreading performance to each physical core.
It is not known if this new Atom will be launched including the 1.8GHz chip, Intel has kept under wraps, or whether it will include any other variants. The power consumption is not believed to go higher than 8 watts, however it is too high to be included in portable devices such as mobiles, though it might be suited for really small notebooks.
They have increased the Level 2 cache to a nice 1MB and they are looking at launching it sometime around December. In the meantime, Intel is expected to launch their ultra-portable chip refresh. Should be interesting to see how the Atom 300 turns out.
