This isn't just a digital camera. Underwater photographer Wolfgang Rattay created his own underwater camera using a regular Canon EOS 1D Mark 2N with (usually) a 15mm fish-eye lens. Using it, he managed to get the first pictures of Alain Bernard of France breaking the world record at the 100m freestyle race in the men’s semi-finals at the European Swimming Championships, March 21 in Eindhoven.
His system is simple. Using a remote control he releases shutter through a waterproof cable, which sends data from the camera through a Canon transmitter to his laptop. His picture hit the wires in just 4 minutes, which is really quick, and everybody used it.
"In the competitive world of sport photography, just like the swimming competition, seconds count. An hour is a life-time." he said.
