The biggest microprocessor ever made is called Tukwila (strange ...) and was developed by Intel on the 65nm chip technology. It is the first quad-core member of the Itanium Product Family (IPF) and the world's first processor to break the 2 billion transistor mark. Each of the four cores is capable of executing two threads at a time, while the total Level2 cache size going up at 30MB.

The big thing however on the new Tukwila, is Intel's interconnect technology, called QuickPath (formerly known as Common Systems Interconnect), which is a very good answer to AMD's Hypertransport technology. We should expect peak bandwidths of up to 96GBps for processor-to-processor links while for memory bandwidths 34GBps should be enough.
Intel's new processor, Tukwila should be ready by the end of the year, the company said. What do you expect from it? Did it meet your expectations?
