A new study by Symantec (pdf link) crowned Europe as the new "king of spam" being responsible for 44 percent of worldwide unsolicited emails beating North America for the third month in a row. The main cause could be more and more countries, and I bet my money it's the Eastern Europe part, are getting broadband Internet.

Broadband connections is a great accomplishment but so is the fact that Europe is now the leading source for SPAM, North America stays on top as second and Asia third.

Storm Worms which are backdoor trojan horse, are still the most "prevalent distribution method" for spam, Symantec European marketing manager Fredrik Sjostedt told CNet. He also said that "We've moved away from traditional, individual spammers, to loosely tied groups of spam senders, malware coders, and people selling access to botnets".
