The FCC gave a green light to mobile operators that would like to shut down their analog networks. This may come as a bad surprise to some of those that have a cell phone, home alarm systems or car assistance that use analog transmitters.
The biggest players who offered nationwide AMPS (Advanced Mobile Phone Systems) analog networks are AT&T Wireless and Verizon Wireless, and they will dump the business on Monday said InfoWorld. When asked the two companies said that there won't be a problem since they have just a few customers to be served from analog networks.
But what exactly a few, means? Verizon aknowledged that they have not more than 1% of their clients to use analog services. But 1% from a total of 60M subscribers, that's 600,000 people which may be left without service on Monday. But it's not only cellphone users to be affected. Home alarms in places where no GSM coverage could be found still use analog transmitters. These could be another few, 400,000 this time.
Therefore if you are still subscribed to analog services I advise you to contact support and see what's going to happen from Monday, because 1,000,000 people is not a few if you ask me.
