Michelin's digital mapping service ViaMichelin is closing down the PND (persona navigation devices) division and this is because they failed to get more than 14% of their domestic market. Rivals TomTom and others did a better job and now 60 of the 170 employees will be laid off.
ViaMichelin currently generates over 400 million maps and routes per month but it looks like that's not enough to be successful on the PND market. However there is still hope for great routing, because Michelin will continue expanding their great website ViaMichelin.com.
