It looks like today is the aquisition day and it started with Bea Systems bought by ORACLE, and later in a deal that is supposed to be somewhere near $1 billion plus "some" shares, Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ:JAVA)announced today that they bought MySQL. The deal will secure Sun's access to the world's most significant open source database in the world and a better image for MySQL in a market where Microsoft and ORACLE are big names.

The deal, if approved by the US Government, should be finished by the end of the third fiscal quarter or maybe the start of the fourth.
