Can you imagine that a double-amputee sprinter can be faster than a normal human competitor? Apparently this is why Oscar Pistorius has been denied to run at the Olympics, after the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) conducted a report that his carbon-fiber prosthetic feet are 25% more efficient than the blood and flesh.
In addition the effort is also less, because he uses artificial limbs. You cannnot give a racer an advantage, be it big or small, at the Olympics. Oscar Pistorius is expected to appeal the decission but I don't he'll have any chances to compete when the race starts.
This is how far scientists went, so that amputees are faster than their two-normal-legs opponents.
