
Intel announced the first details of the low-cost Shelton notebook platorm they are about to release and it includes a single-core Diamondville CPU at 1.6GHz with 533MHz front-side bus that only consumes 3.5W, a 945GSE motherboard to support DirectX 9 integrate graphics and single-channel DDR2 RAM memory. It's going to consume only 8W so you can only imagine the battery life.
The Shelton platform should be available wth a 7-8" displays should be the direct competitor of ASUS' Eee PC. It will also feature 802.11g Wireless and an USB/PATA-port SSD drive. So far MSI and Gigabyte have been working on that project, with Acer, Dell and HP being interested.
Release date is supposed to be third quarter of 2008, but I'm sure we'll find out more until that time comes.
