I've never knew, and I am sure many of you either, that there is a big truck that's only powered with batteries. I mean I've been to Croatia at the Plitvice National Park and I saw their electric buses used for public transportation so that the environment won't be polluted but I never though a big truck which you can load with lots of things could do the same trick.
Smith Electric Vehicles' Smith Newton truck, have been produced (and went on the streets) for some time now in Europe, but with people like Al Gore the demand for such truck increased and is going to come to the United States in 2008 with big plans in Fresno. They want to build a production plant to create 10,000 units in 2010.
If you're interested (I know I am) to know a little about the specs here we go:
- 120 KiloWatt motor
- 278 volt batteries
- up to 50mph
- 150 miles range until recharge
- faster than diesel-engines when it comes to 0-30mph sprint
I don't have a price for you guys, but only hope that we will soon replace the oil-eating engines with these. Recharge the batteries with solar power and you guys have a high end product.
