The Green "ZeroHouse" of the Future

green_zero_house.jpg
I hope you're not waiting to see green walls or anything, right? This is a new example of what people can do if they really want to keep the environment cleaner and is called the ZeroHouse, by architect Scott Specht.

Designed to be fully automatic and power efficient the ZeroHouse looks like it's from the future. As you can see it has a few solar panels above that not only will keep you away from paying for electricity, but will store enough batteries to give you enough power for a week with no sun. Inside the house there is LED lightning for lower power consumption and a bigger life span (100,000 hours, non stop).

Now that we covered electricity would you be interested to know that it has a 2700-gallon roof cistern for water and a "green" plumbing system that will take the organic waste into a container in your basement. This is where it gets converted into compost which gets removed two times a year.

As you can see the connection between the ZeroHouse and any local services is minimal, but that doesn't mean it's not comfortable because it is. With a living area, a kitchen, a full bath and two bedrooms, I think this concept should be implemented very soon because there would be people highly interested (like me).

What do you think?

It needs burglar bars and a garage.

This house just might fly away when the first high winds come along. Most likely it will just tip over, or the solar "wings" will rip off. Virtually every place in North American is subject to high winds at some time or another. I don't think the architect thought this through.

If you remember the toilet-shaped house you've read about last month, the green zero house or the office on water and enjoyed all of them, I have another one for you, that already got appreciation after winning a first prize... [Read More]

Something should have been done for rain-water harvesting to keep use of river water minimum :)

That would make this house *almost* independent.

Very cool. Seems like a vertical execution of the MKD architects Lotus Home which is also selling many of the same benefits.

Great concept. not so much with design. I love the idea of a smaller - zero - footprint but that is just plain ugly and in many ways unsuited to certain climes. Keep up the good work though, we need these homes.

They did, there's a "2700-gallon roof cistern for water".

Turn the solar panels 90 degrees and attach them to the top of the roof to avoid wind damage and add a garage with an electric car charger.

What about incorporating geothermal power as well?
