I just read that there is a possibility for SanDisk to announce 1GB "write-once" memory cards for as low as $5.99. This is still a rumor and came as a tip from a guy that took a survey about new SanDisk products, including this one.
Not sure how useful it will be but it has some points with the price lower than standard re-writeable memory cards, can be stored safely for a much longer period of time (they say 100 years) up to 400 high-res pictures. It can be used on your camera because it's a standard format and should be considered as an archiving solution.
If you want my two cents, then I guess I'm not the target beacause last summer in a 10 days trip I managed to fill 8GB of pictures and videos so buying 8 memory cards would cost me $48 right, and that's not the best thing I can do.
