
If you were wondering how much would it cost to get a piece of the 700 MHz spectrum then you should know Google is preparing $4.6 Billion. Is that what you had in mind? With the buzz on Android, the operating system Google released, they are trying to get the attention one more time. The Wall Street Journal mentioned that Google may raise their bid up to $4.6 billion for their slice, alone, without any partners and that the funds will be mainly from their own cash and partially, borrowed.
Apparently Google is already using a test license from the FCC for their advanced Wireless network in Mountain View campus to make sure that when they get some 700MHz waves they're prepared (and have the experience) to become a national carrier that provides mobile phone and Internet services.
December 3rd is the date the FCC have set as a deadline for declaring an intent to bid, with the actual auction in January 2008. I think they're not alone in that battle because AT&T or Verizon Wireless are two big companies that are interested in a slice of the 700MHz spectrum, too.
