Since the beginning, when you thought of the iPhone aside the specs you were thinking at a carrier locked mobile phone with a built-in battery that you couldn't take off, change or recycle so that you or me as customer, to become extremely dependent on Apple. However there will be a source for "unlocked iPhones" and that comes from Orange, in France, which was chosen as an iPhone Operator in France.
Apparently the laws in France are against exclusive sales of locked cellular phones to a provider, so Orange will have to offer both a locked - probably $449, and an unlocked version of the iPhone with a price that could skyrocket to determine people not to buy.
So what now? All those people that tried to hack the iPhone and make it work on all carriers worked in vain? This sounds like a big laugh in their faces. I am already seeing a good business here, so I guess the French won't be renowned to export fine wines and cheese but also the unlocked iPhone.
