The project, named "One Star Is Born", promises a better computerized system to make hotel management easier and to reduce costs and include a pre-fabricated hotel room that could be operational as soon as they connect it to the hotel, with just four cables.
The hotel room has an RFID keycard that stores your room preferences and can be coded online before you arrive, free wireless, Philips' MoodPad which controls the room's ambiance like light color, shades or temperature and a flat screen display that more like an entertainment center. Philips estimates that with their system, that doesn't include a doorman or a front desk, hotel owners could reduce costs up to 50% which makes them think of an "affordable luxury" that everyone would afford.
However, looking at some pictures of the rooms, I am not sure if that's my idea of luxury. I thought luxury is something Cleopatra had in her "home", because that's what I would like to afford. I will have to agree though, that the idea is brilliant and can't wait before 2008 to see what are the prices so that I can visit Amsterdam.
