A few months ago I gave you a few hints, why I thought there won't be any Google Phones launched at least for some time now. A few argued my beliefs and a few understood what I was saying but despite all rumors I've heard, I kept my ideas on the subject. No gPhone from Google.
So why did they exactly developed their in-house phone? Because they are trying to create a better operating system for mobile phones, based on Linux, that will put Windows Mobile "out of business" and will work with their best services, maps and mobile search. Of course they needed a device for tests and to show it off to manufacturers, isn't it?
So to make my point, why would Google fight with Apple or other manufacturers, to creating the most wanted phone ever, if they can have the operating system that runs it? Time will tell!

Did you even read the New York Times article? Or for that matter, any other gPhone coverage? It doesn't sound like you have.
