Mozilla's VP of Engineerring, Mike Schroepfer, has made the 'official' announcement that they want to rock the Mobile Web with their release of Mobile Firefox. The cellphones these days have a lot of features to support Mobile Firefox in a 'no compromise' for security or other issues, said Schroepfer.
Considering that so far in the world we have 20 cellphones for every 1 computer, and the fact that Firefox is the most popular open source web browser I think they have a pretty huge market to work on. We need to see Firefox3 on the market before we will have the mobile version to run Firefox extensions and allow people to build rich applications via XUL.
When Mozilla commited to going mobile, some new people came in the company. Christian Sejersen, head of browsers at Openwave (NSDQ: OPWV) and Brad Lassey which moved from France Telecom (NYSE: FTE) R&D.
I am pretty confident that we will see another great product that will change the way we browse, from Mozilla, in 2008.
