It's been a few months now since Java announced that they will go mobile and developed the Java Mobile FX platform, based on code from SavaJe Technologies, which they aquired. The software, that looks much like the one Apple is using on the iPhone, is what will bring Samsung and Sun Microsystems together.
The two big companies are supposedly going to team up in an effort to create a new mobile phone that will compete equally with iPhone. Scott McNealy, Sun's Chairman said they're thinking of a "Java phone that would surpass Apple's iPhone in functionality and cost less" but hasn't confirmed in detail, the deal with Samsung yet.
"Sun has a longstanding relationship with Samsung, working for years on Java-enabled phones and devices. Beyond that we have no comment about future plans and products" said spokesman Russ Castronovo - CNET
