It's a new week and as promised I am trying to bring you green news. Today it's about Hitachi that developed a new hard drive that goes from 250GB to 500GB and was designed to replace the DeskStar lineup. It's codenamed P7K500 and is the most energy-efficient in the whole world consuming 3.6 watts for models under 360GB and 4.8 watts, above.

Hitachi P7K500 runs at 7,200 rpm, but we need some benchmarks to check that up and be certain that we get the same performances with lower energy. If it were to make some math it's about 59% more power efficient (common is 7watts) than any other hard drives so far. I am sure with so many hard drives sold in the world even 3 watts each piece would be a nice add-on in the battle for lower power consumption.
