If you haven't heard so far, today October 15th is the Blog Action Day, when all bloggers "unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind", by writing about a better and greener environment. I will do it, too, on BizToolBelt because I am a fan of green solutions and I think we should do something about the environment we're living in. My ideas will of course be seen through technology and gadgets eyes.
Recycling e-waste should be done
To be honest I don't read the owners manual every time I buy a new device and I know I should do it. There you can find, explained, how to use it and what to do after the device is not usable anymore. I am talking about electronic waste that include broken TVs, batteries, ink cartridges, cell phones, computer components and much more.
From what I know only 11% of the e-waste is being collected and recycled so imagine that chemicals such as arsenic, cadmium, nickel, lead and mercury can enter the soil and maybe the groundwater. Would you drink that water or would you eat the vegetables that would grow there? I am sure you wouldn't, but if you would, your health would be in jeopardy because they produce cancer and neurological disorders.
I think you should think of recycling if your computer is outdated or try giving it to charity, a school or someone poor, rather than leaving it thrown away somewhere.
Greener energy and fuels
If you are a regular reader on BizToolBelt you should know that I always try to praise new hybrid engine ideas or solar power devices. A few companies around the world are working on generating energy without burning coal or oil to pollute the air, but using wind-mills, water falls and the sun.
I really enjoyed when I saw the solar trees from Vienna because I knew we could be on the right track. Same goes for hybrid engines that should keep fuel away from polluting the waters when used in ships or the air when used in cars or airplanes. I agree that a few manufacturers are trying to get win the ecologists on their side, when they launch cars that work both on electricity or gas.
Can you imagine if 50 people would use just one bus when going to work, rather than 25+ cars? The air would be polluted, but not as bad.
I am not sure if my article will change more than a few mentalities, but there are 15 million bloggers supporting Blog Action Day and if they all reach just a few to change their minds, I am sure things will change in time. If you enjoyed this article you can always come back on BizToolBelt or read free using our feed.
