
When I read the price for this new laptop I thought ASUS is starting their own 'one laptop per child' program, but apparently they are not. Jonathan Tsang, ASUS president of Sales and Marketing declared that on October 16th they will be announcing the prices for their Eee PC ultra portable laptop program which is supposed to be a low-cost.
As a private consumer you (and me) are very interested in buying a low-cost laptop but you should know that ASUS will only sell them for $199 only on contract purchases, and retail prices will not be lower than $200. Digitimes announced that the new ASUS Eee PC ultra portable will be on the market in Taiwan from October 16th, with 10,000 units, then Best Buy and Newegg will be carrying them in the US and later this year, they will be in China.
