Colorado based communications provider AirCell is working with American airlines to bring air travelers onboard WiFi.
Using any WiFi enabled SmartPhone, PDA or laptop, the service should give travelers the opportunity to check email, surf the Web and check corporate intranets. Estimated pricing is looking reasonable at approximately $10 per transcontinental flight.
American Airlines will begin testing the service on flights from New York to California starting in January 2008. If successful, the test program will be extended to 14 transcontinental routes.
"We understand that broadband connectivity is important to our business customers and others who want to use their PDAs and laptops for real-time, in-flight broadband communications," said American Airlines Executive Vice President Dan Garton in a statement.
