In a recent study conducted by market research company IDC, Samsung kicked Motorola from the 2nd place, in the cell phone market ranking. I must agree that Samsung released better models both in design and funcionality, during the last four years while Motorola was behind Nokia. Motorola's market share dropped from 22% in Q2 2006 to 13% in Q2 of 2007. Here is how the first 5 did:
- Nokia - 37% (up from 33.4%)
- Samsung - 13.7% (up from 10.7%)
- Motorola - 13% (down from 22.1%)
- Sony Ericsson - 9.1% (up from 6.7%)
- LG - 7% (up from 6.4%)
As you can see not only Samsung had to win from what Motorola lost, but also Sony Ericsson and LG. Ah, I forgot to mention that Apple entered the ring, going up to 0.1% and that is because the research includes facts during the second quarter (until June 30 2007).
