As of

able to recycle your old Sony electronics at no cost.
On Friday, Sony announced its "Sony Takes Back Recycling Program." The program will be
offered at 75 drop-off locations in the US and operated by WM Recycle America. There are plans to expand the program to 150 locations within the year and expectations of having a center within 20 miles of 90% of the US population. Consumers will also have the option of shipping their old electronics to a recycling center.
The centers will be accepting all Sony and Sony-Ericsson brand electronics for free and all other brands for an undisclosed fee.
