Nokia announced Tuesday that it might recall up to 46 million cell phone batteries. The product advisory warns that some of Nokia's batteries could pose a risk of overheating. The warning covers bateries manufactured by Matsushita from December 2005 to November 2006. The lithium-ion battery is only 1 of the 14 types that are used in Nokia cell phones.
Nokia is exchanging the batteries but states that while there were about 100 incidents of the BL-5C battery overheating there were no "serious injuries or property damage" and that the incidents occured while the unit was charging.
For more information on whether your specific battery is affected and about swapping out the batteries check out the Nokia web page set up specifically for the exchange. They have set up an area where you can enter your specific product ID # and see if it is affected.
