Fingerprint technology nowadays is everywhere. Nowadays its important to have extra security system or PC's passwords can be stolen easily, or can be lost. Fingerprint technology makes our life easier. But I don't completely agree with the author, before APC there was allready other fingerprint softwares and one of the most well known one which I used happily for 3 years called Desktop Biometrics Suite (DBS) from M2SYS Technology . The DBS has multi functions too like password manager, file encryption & decryption, screen saver login & windows login. Also DBS was reviwed by PC Magazine (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2142449,00.asp). I found it very helpful and it was easy to install.
