In my many articles as a tech journalist I would always praise the use of OLED screens for displays because they require less power, they are much brighter and are typically cheaper to produce. The main downside would be a shorter lifespan - but short is actually relative, when it comes to replacing your laptop every 5 years at least.
So LG announced its frameless OLED notebooks - its like viewing your Word document on a REALLY WIDE screen as there is a full bleed along the edges of your computer. Neat, huh?

Where did you get all that nonsense about OLEDs? If they were to be implemeted in a notebook without changing the UI from balck on white to white on black, it would use more power than an LCD. Currently, AMOLEDs require a 40% price premium over LCDs and they are not necessarily brighter. Depends on how hard the OLED is driven and the luminance of the backlight for the LCD.
But they are:
1) Thinner and Lighter
2) Higher in Contrast
3) Better in Color Gamut
4) Faster in response time (for video)
In new technology, you can't always believe the hype!

Barry
