The girls from The Gadgeteer have featured one of the more interesting landline phones cum answering machine set from VTech, the mi6879. The package consists of the base unit and the wireless phone itself.

The base unit acts not just as a charger but also as an answering machine. It also has an independent numerical keypad which can be used as a speaker phone. The review does mention that there is some sort of internal backup mechanism when the power goes down and your incoming messages do get backed up - everything except the time of call.

The wireless phone is small enough to fit your hand but too small to be placed between your shoulder and ear. The phone has an intuitive directory that can be used to store numbers.
