In reference to my previous post, Friedman also made reference to a way to make attractive charts without having to use Excel's not-so-cool pie chart tool. Wolfgang Bartelme describes a chart making tutorial broken into two parts:

Tutorial Number 1 - A tutorial on how to make 3D charts using Adobe Illustrator

Tutorial Number 2 - A tutorial on how to enhance the charts you just made

Of course, I may add that if you're on a Macintosh you're better off using Keynote which is bundled into the iWork productivity suite.
