This would save a lot of time theoretically because most of us would just want to drag the entire folder to a backup drive, format our HD, and then move the Program Files folder back.
Nope, doesn't work that way folks. It does for some apps though, but not all. Most games - in fact, would run by simply dragging and dropping folders even without the registry file.

1. Create a folder in Program Files.
2. Add entries to the Registry about the program.
3. Copy files to C:\Program Files\Common Files, C:\Windows and/or C:\Windows\System32.
