I've been a .Mac subscriber for more than a year and have found the hefty price tag is too big a price to pay for a lot of its services. At most, a .Mac account is a glorified email address with some backup features. You can also use it as a "preapproved server" if you want to upload songs to the iTunes Store.

But one of the main reasons why I got a .Mac account was for on the fly backup. If you are a Windows user and want a free backup solution (read: FREE), you may want to try Mozy Backup, a client that allows you to backup over 2GB of data. You can actually exceed the 2GB if you decide to pay a small fee.
