Choose an extension cord for your notebook more than 10 meters in length - you never know how far the nearest plug is. But don't try to burden yourself with a whole mile worth of cord wrapped up in your bag because it doesn't look very flattering.
Apple does this cord thing pretty well with those bundled with the power brick. You can opt to attach a seperate "duck head" to make the brick portable or attach the extension cord to make its reach longer.
