I couldn't believe it when I saw it. On the CNET Reviews page was an updated dual core ultraportable computer for less than $1,000. Wait, even much less than $900. Averatec has invaded the ultracheap, ultraportable niche with the release of this affordable wonder.

Here are the specs, ladies and germs...

Averatec 2300:
A 4-pound system with a 1.6GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50 processor, a 12.1-inch WXGA display, a 100GB hard drive, and a built-in double-layer DVD burner, all for the low, low starting price of $849.

Of course, there are tradeoffs. In terms of battery life, the 2300 drains battery juice at a remarkable pace. The speakers and multimedia bundle aren't remarkable so it is suggested to try and get better desktop speakers when you want to watch DVDs.
