Two brothers in the semi conductor world at last embraced each other. The world's second-largest wireless handset maker, Motorola has splashed out $3.9bn to acquire Holtsville based Symbol
Technologies, the maker of bar code and inventory scanning technology. Analysts feel that the price has gone down by a good margin as different stock analysts expected earlier that the deal would be sealed for $5 billion. Nevertheless, going by the exuberance, both the companies doling out the nice and cozy feeling will remain intact for the time to come. This acquisition will make Motorola the world's biggest seller of handheld bar-code scanners and upon completion of this deal (expected to be over by late 2006 or early 2007) Symbol will become the cornerstone of Motorola's networks and enterprise business. That's not symbolic, guys, ask Symbol employees, their egos already have floated a minimum of 3-4 inches off the ground.
