There is a near-beta application called
Xacktunes that allows Mac users to backup their iTunes playlists.
One of things we wanted to build with all our backup apps was to make it more “integrated” with the actual app/data it is backing up so that backing up is not a “separate” activity. Let’s face it, a big reason (other than my HD won’t crash) that people don’t backup is that they are just too lazy.

Why choose playlists then? This is where it gets intersting. By turning the backup ap as an integrated part of an application (yes think .Mac), then it will provide users with a better incentive to use it - because it doesn't change user behavior.
