Every once in a while, an alternate source of power comes into play into the consumer line of products. Sure, such things have existed, theoretically, for some time but have never found their way to the consumer as an acceptable source of powering something, like how hamsters are usually portrayed powering stuff with their wheel.
Well
the time has come for string to power consumer products, as Nikolas Negroponte has shown with his hundred dollar laptop project. Will alternative power sources like this one make their way to mainstream market? You tell me.
The new power system will 'make the laptop much easier to power than it would be with a hand crank, in part, because the users will be able to operate the generator in a variety of ways, including holding the device (the size of two hockey pucks) in one hand and pulling the string with the other, or clamping the generator to a desk, attaching the string to one foot, and using leg power.'"
