Dell and Acer are going to be making wireless cards based on the pre-standard 802.11n wi-fi specification.available for their notebook PCs soon. 802.11n provides vastly superior speeds and reliability over existing wireless 802.11 protocols like a/b/g.

Though it is based on Draft 1.0 of the specification, that draft hasn't been finalized or ratified. That also means that the Wi-Fi Alliance won't perform interoperability tests until the specification is confirmed.

Dell and Acer have specified different maximum data transfer rates for their cards: Dell at 270Mbps while Acer at 300Mbps. Those are optimum conditions rely on a compatible base station.

I'd rather wait for Asus notebooks since I've never had good wifi connections coming from Acer notebooks.
