After their infamous run-ins with Yahoo in regards to pressuring them to reveal information about dissident bloggers, and Google to filter out search results, China is now dedicated to filtering its SMS airwaves of unthinkable topics like Taiwan, democracy, and pornography.
Although the technology for real-time filtering by keyword would be largely homegrown and not very powerful, predictive text manufacturers like Tegic are receiving pressure from handset manufacturers to check their dictionaries for words that could be considered distasteful in some countries.
