Sony plans to release a new SOny VAio Type U model sometime at the beginning of next month even thought the long awaited Sony Vaio UX90 has not been out of the stables yet. This new model defies convention as it does not come with a HDD. It will use 16GB of flash memory instead. Needless to say, this move will result in much faster loading times and increased application and hardware performance.
Sony touts that a certain application taking 62 seconds on the UX90 requires just 5.6 to 17 seconds to perform the same task. The amount of RAM remains unchanged at 512MB. This new Vaio will be available in 3 different CPU configurations. Choose from the Intel Core Solo U1400(1.20GHz), Intel Core Solo U1300(1.06GHz), or the Celeron M 423 (1.06GHz). The WSVGA screen is rather small at 4.5". The high capacity battery is expected to last anywhere between 5.5 hours and 8 hours. As with all other Vaio products, you can be expected to fork out a pretty penny for this one.
Pros : Sony Vaio brand prestige, no HDD, flash memory
Cons : Small screen, 16GB of memory might not be enough
