Hewlett-Packard has issued a recall for around 679,000 of the company's digital cameras, citing a battery overheating problem when the camera is connected to a docking station or an AC adapter that could potentially pose as a fire hazard. A single report of the HP Photosmart R707 digital camera catching fire prompted Hewlett-Packard to perform the recall, with around 224,000 of these cameras residing in the alone. If you have purchased the camera in question anytime between August 2004 and April 2006 at prices between US$250 and US$400, it would be prudent to stop using them immediately and contact HP for a firmware update that solves this problem. In the meantime, it is adviseable to avoid single-use, non-rechargeable batteries until the update is completed.
