Trust me, I've been there.
For a nononsense review, you've found the right review. I use the Epson S3 in the classroom about 15-25 feet away from a white pulldown screen.
The S3 works great in this environment. Video's look good, text is readable and it is very easy to use.
As far as a value is concerned, at $749 retail it can't be beat. But here is the real value, when the bulb burns out (they all do eventually), you'll only be out $175 to replace it.
Most replacement bulbs (or lamps) are in the $400 price range. That is definitely a consideration when buying a projector.
If you need a budget projector and don't intend to use it in your home as a replacement for your HD TV, the S3 is a highly recommended projector.
